Description

In this lesson, learners will be introduced to filler words and will have opportunities to test these out themselves. They will learn about the use and meaning of these fillers and apply them in role play exercises.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Put picture onto the w/b Ask students if they woman could have replies in shorter terms and in a more simple way without losing meaning Read "girl in Kadikoy" story out loud to class with a partner (role play) Read version with fillers then version without Ask students if they noticed a difference. If so, what was different/missing in the second version ? have them find the fillers in the comic

Exposure (8-15 minutes) • check student's initial understanding

After listening to the conversation,give them the handouts and have students discuss with their partner for a minute and then match the words to their meaning on the w/b Drill words as they are being written on the w/b

Listening & Recognizing Task #2 (8-10 minutes) • To get students to recognize and become aware of newly learned language

Have students listen to 1.30 on page 33, exercise 2 and make then put the fillers they hear in the order they are used in pairs. Have solutions on the back of the paper.

Creative Productive TaSK (10-15 minutes) • To have students make up their own conversation using new words

Using U3c - p202, have students pick three of the characters on the picture Have them decide what the subject of conversation will be Make up a fictional conversation between these people using fillers. In groups of 3 have them present their conversation to the w/c
