Lesson 3 Plans and Dreams

Description

This lesson continues with the same Topic of the previous lesson on Plans and Dreams focusing on Grammar and Listening. Th grammar points will focus on 'Going to' (Plans and predictions) Future tense through a listening Activity. Ss will also focus on TL and Vocabulary through guided discovery.

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss practice Grammar tenses 'be going to (plans and predictions) for Future plans and dreams

Subsidiary Aims

  • Listening and speaking for fluency and accuracy

Procedure

Stage 1 -Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To get Ss interested in the topic i will introduce a starter activity for students to match the three travellers in the picture to 3 different 'going to' scenarios (2 minutes). This will be followed by a listening activity to check Ss answers.

Stage 2 -Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

To provide context for the target language through the listening activity. This will be accompanied with a completion chart from p20 2b- Ss will be given a further 3-4 minutes to complete the chart before the Fb to check understanding of the text.

Stage 3 Highlighting (6-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Use CCQs to get Ss to notice the TL In the Grammar examples be going to in the context of 'plans and predictions. Use ICQs to get students to understand the examples in the listening Activity to exercise 3a and give them 4-5 minutes to complete Ex3a HO. Will use Listening activity to check the answers and provide FB

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Will use CCQs and guided discovery task for Ss to figure the meaning form and pronunciation and use of 'be going toxin the correct context. Will use P132 ex3a be going to deal with meaning and then form followed with guided discovery and FB. Will involve Ss in highlighting important points on the WB. Then i wills p21 Ex 4a & B Pronunciation and speaking to drill Ss with both 'sentence stress and fast speech'.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Will use activity 3A on p131 'Complete with going to + a verb task to check Ss meaning and form.

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

To consolidate the TL and further production i will use the pairing activity in exercise 3C p101 & 107 'Whats the Word? Will pair students as Student A and B
