Description

In this lesson ss will learn about travel experiences by reading, main aim of the lesson,from the text provided. Ss will discuss about the places they visit or avoid by clarifying the meaning of the verbs. At the end of the lesson ss personalize the topic by talking about their ideal holiday destination.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist ss will be given two different visit to relate the characters. To provide scanning ss will be given some questions about the text. It is also aimed to clarify the meaning of the phrases such as; "a must see, worth visiting, you can't beat" by deducting from the text.

Subsidiary Aims

  • It is aimed to gather receptive skills (reading) and productive skills (speaking).

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T writes some criteria on white board and asks ss to paste the sign which will be given individually. Ss paste the sign to define their ideal holiday destination. Secondly ss will be given different sign to paste and show the criteria non-defining their ideal holiday.

Pre-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T writes on board "What do/don't you prefer in your holiday destination and Why? ss are put in pairs to ask these questions in 2 minutes to engage the topic. In FB, T ask ss in pairs "what does/doesn't your partner prefer in her ideal holiday destination?" and "Does s/he avoid or visit?" with CCQ.

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

First, Ss are given two different written profiles of the characters and two different travel experience. ss read the informations and the destinations quickly to have gist and will match the visitors with the destinations in 2 minutes. in this task ss will work in pairs. Secondly, ss are put in groups and this time skim the text for specific informations to complete the task given by T. This time ss work in 2 groups and compete. T writes only the numbers of the questions on board.

While-Reading #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Ss are put in pairs and given some phrases such as "a must see, worth visiting... etc." and definitions of them. T asks to choose the correct meaning of these phrases by reading in detail from the text.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide personalization with the related topic they read.

Ss are put in groups in circle shape and asked to talk about their ideal holiday. T monitors the ss while they are speaking.
