Description

In this lesson, students learn how to say what clothes they wear and about prices through guided discovery based on a practice exercise about clothes. The lesson starts with vocabulary eliciting and describing what students wear. Finally there are some controlled practice and free practice via speaking activity.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher shows picture of big shop with many clothes. * What do you see in the picture? (shop, market) * What can you buy in the market? (clothes...) The weather is very hot today so I wear a T-shirt and summer trousers. * What do you wear? ( shorts, T-shirt, blouse, dress) * What do you wear when the weather is cold? ( Hat, scarf, pullover, jacket, coat, trousers) * What do you wear when you go to school? (Uniform, skirt, T-shirt, trousers) * What do you wear when you go to work? (tie, suit, dress, shirt, a bag) * What do you wear when you go to party? (jeans, shoes, blouse, T-shirt) The teacher sticks the images of expansive and cheap clothes on the WB and writes the prices under the pictures. * Which cloth is expansive? (The red one is expansive) * How much it it? ( It is 200 pound) * Which cloth is cheap? (The flowered dress is cheap) * How much is it? ( It is 10 pound)

Modelig (8-10 minutes) • To model naturally so students can hear and identify the item

The teacher ask and writes on the WB: * What do you wear? * I wear... * How much is the ... The teacher writes "T-shirt" "trousers" * I wear a T-shirt and a pair of jeans. The teacher draws a pair of jeans and writes ONE The teacher draws two or three pairs of jeans and writes MANY The teacher elicits examples of plural and single clothes from students: trousers, jeans, shoes,... The teacher writes model sentences: How much is the hat? It is 20 TL. How much are the shoes? They are 60 TL. What do you wear today? I wear T-shirt, trousers and a pair of shoes.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The teacher pass out HO (1), ask students to fill the gaps. Give them 2 min, then AK on the WB. The teacher pass out HO (2) ask students listen track 1.82 and fill the blanks. After they finish arrange the pairs and students works in pair : * How much is (are) this (these)? * It is (They are) _________ $. The teacher arranged students into small groups and pass out the HO (3). Ask them work together and fill the table, notice only 5 min for that. Optional: after they finish one student from each group writes words on the WB

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The teacher writes on the WB what they learn today: * What do you wear usually? (at home, at a party, at work, at school) * How much is (are) this (these)? The teacher ask students to stand up and mingle in the class asking each other questions.
