Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a presentation of a Zoo project

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of prepositions of place in the context of planning a Zoo layout

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher asks Ss: What is yoour favourite animal? Why? Where can you watch diferent animals? Do you like ZOO?

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

T shows to Ss Ready project : Do you like my project? would you change it? Why? Where should be the big animals cages? And smaller animals? Can they live togheter?

Language Analysis (9-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the task language

T presents new vocabulary tiger parrot crocodile turtle panda giraffe leopard snake toucan /ˈtuːk(ə)n/ elephant hippo gorilla zebra seal /siːl/ Do you know those words: prepositions of place handout.

Planning (5-7 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to plan students' reports

PW: Make a plan and write a description. Try to use new words- handout will help. T checks couple examples- error correction.

Task (13-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Did you hear the news? There will be z Zoo in Istanbul, but we have to help with planning- would you like to make a Zoo project? Ss work in 3 groups and trying to design a zoo project with help of prepositions of place template.

Report (7-8 minutes) • To allow students to report on how they did the task and how it went

Ss presents their projects- all class voting for the best one.
