Description

In this lesson Ss practice the TL through listening to partners and responding when necessary. This is followed up by Ss role-playing a conversation between a ticket seller and customer at the cinema. ;If time is left over, Ss will play a game called 'price is right' where they try to guess the price of things.

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of buying and selling a ticket to the cinema

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about time and money in the context of buying and selling a ticket to the cinema

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To arouse Ss' interest in the topic of the lesson

T projects pictures of clocks and prices on the board and elicits the answers from the Ss. T draws attention to the pronunciation of dollars, cents,euros,pounds and p.

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To give Ss the opportunity to listen to and speak the TL

T puts Ss into grous of three. T checks that Ss undertsand the meaning of the word "hear" using body language if necessary. T models on w/c at board by showing what Ss A,B,C will be doing. T hands out strips of paper (HO2) with pics of time and price on them. Ss listen to eachother and speak where appropriate. T monitors and when activity is over gives feedback w/c

Semi-controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To give Ss the opportunity to practice the TL in the ontext of buying and selling cinema tickets

T puts Ss in pairs and tells Ss that they are at the cinema. T explains to Ss that they are going to buy and sell tickets for films. T elicits from Ss how to ask questions & answer. T shows Ss the task and models the dialogue. T then tells Ss who is A and who is B. T hands out (HO3) Ss do task and T monitors. When Ss finish task Ss change partners and do it again. T monitors and takes notes of errors.

Feedback & Error Correction (4-6 minutes) • To provide Ss with the opportunity to correct their errors

T gets FB from Ss e.g. 'Which film did you choose?' T writes a few errors on the board gets Ss to correct the errors.

Consolidating Filler (5-10 minutes) • to give Ss to further practice prices through a fun game

If time is left Ss play 'Price is right'. T puts Ss into 5 groups. T tells Ss that they will play a game that involves guessing the price of things. T shows Ss a picture on the projector. Ss guess the price. The closest group wins as many points as they quoted. Any over bidders are out of the round.
