Main Aims

  • By the end of this class, Ss should be able to review and practice present perfect vs. past simple in the context of an argument about money

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of this class, Ss should be able to practice speaking accuracy using the TL

Procedure

Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To create interest in the topic of the lesson and engage Ss more

T. shows the students a picture about the theme of the lesson i.e. arguments over money and shopping, asks them to discuss it in pairs, and finally gets their fb.

Building Context (5-5 minutes) • This stage builds the context of our TL

Use listening in a/b to form the text for your TL - so do a mini listening stage with the task in A. Do a peer check.

Still building the context (10-10 minutes) • building the contest of the TL

Now do ex. b - get Ss work together in pairs, they complete the gaps, then listen to check. Check if Ss have the correct answers (not every gap, but some difficult ones).

Presentation (10-10 minutes) • Clarification of our TL

Now ask about the tenses in the conversation and ask about the meaning.(ex. c), P (some drilling) and F.

Practice (Controlled) (5-5 minutes) • Give a students a chance to practice the TL on a limited scale

Now go on to ex. d on page 134 for controlled practice (activity a). Think of a fb for the tasks.

Production (10-10 minutes) • To provide freer oral practice that is focused on using the TL more fluently

retype the questionnaire, leave extra slot for Ss to write their own questions if there any, as Ss to work in pairs to interview each others, ask them to ask each other follow-up questions. You need to monitor here, make notes and use this as a DEC at the end of the activity.
