Description

In this lesson students will exercise speaking and grammar on the bases of the knowledge they have acquired in their previous lessons. Simple present will be the grammar target and students will utilize this particular area during speaking practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation and descriptions in the context of Talking about people, one's self and each other.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of conversation and descriptions in the context of Talking about people, one's self and each other.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-15 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will draw my picture on the middle of the board and then draw certain info about me in hints, around the drawing e.g. job, height, looks, Tennis, James bond, vampire, Harry Potter, Pakistan, Kemal, family, Titanic, Superman. Then I will elicit grammatically structured description from students. Then I will expand the task by highlighting Pakistan as a country and elicit information from the students about their country. This way they will use their knowledge about third person in simple present. This will be a way to personalize the lesson to the students. Lastly I will lead the task towards other form of third person such as he, she, they by highlighting my family members.

Productive Task 1 (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1- Words likes, dislikes, favorite person, food, sports, scared of will be displayed on the board. 2- An illustration will be presented to the students by doing roll play with a student in front of them i.e. A: What are you afraid of? B: I am afraid of dogs. A: What is your favorite sports? B: My favorite sports is football. 3- Students will make pairs and ask these type of 4- 5 questions from each other. 4- Students will switch the partners and tell the new partner about the old one.

Productive Task 2 (10-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1- Students will make a circle along with the teacher. 2- Teacher will throw the ball and ask to through back. 3- When students throw the ball back to the teacher, teacher will say one sentence in present simple about the student who throws the ball and one about her own self. For example; "He is tall, I am a teacher." 4- Next teacher throws the ball and the student catches it will say something about himself and something about the teacher in present simple. 5- This will continue by throwing and catching the ball by different students.
