Description

In this lesson, Ss extend their reading practice around the theme of social networking.Then, they will practise retelling the story they have read and finally do some follow up speaking activity about the theme.

  • To provide practice past simple tense to retell the story

Procedure

Pre-reading/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shows Ss some photos of people from the slide. T asks Ss " How do you think they meet? T elicits answers from the Ss. T put them in pairs and give them 2 mins to discuss the following question: Do you think the Internet is a safe place to meet a future partner? T takes feedback from different pairs.

Pre-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T creates four different groups. T gives each different group three questions. Ss discuss the questions in their group. T takes feedback from each group. 1. How many different social networking websites can you name? How are they different? 2.Do you use any social networking websites ? how much time per day do you spend on them? 3.What are the advantages / disadvantages of social networking sites?

Pre-Reading 2 (7-10 minutes) • To guess the content of the passages they are going to read.

T creates 3 groups. T sticks several headlines on different parts of the class. T gives the intructions and demonstrate what they will do with the headlines. Ss walk around the class and try to guess the story behind each of the headline. T gets feedback from different groups about the headlines.

While-Reading (4-5 minutes) • To provide students with reading for detail

T divides the class into 2 groups.Learners in each group work together. T gives Group 1 Story 1 and Group 2 Story 2. Ss read the stories and match them with the headlines. Ss check with their partner and give feedback to the class.

While-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text

T gives out the question sections for Story 1 and Story 2. Ss answer the questions (a-g) and Ss prepere to retell the story. Finally Ss retell the story in their pairs.

Post-reading (6-7 minutes) • To make the Ss go in more details about the reading passages and retell the story

T reorganises the pairs A+B so in each pair they have read different stories.Ss retells their stories. Their partner guesses the missing headline. T asks CCQ to each different group to make sure they have understood it all.

Post-reading (4-5 minutes)

T creates four different groups. T asks Ss to pick one question which is face down. Ss picks one question randomly and they discuss it within their groups. T takes FB from the Ss.
