Description

In this lesson, students will be introduced to some new vocabulary in the context of the theme "dream homes". They will read a text regarding this subject and listen to a recording. Moreover, they will have opportunities to speak about what they think, like or dislike about their own homes and surroundings.

Abc Straightforward intermediate, student's book

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Post pictures on the board Have students guess what today's topic might be about As soon as they come up with "dream homes", ask them which of the homes would be their personal dream home and make them give you reasons why or why not

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Speaking Activity 1 should be done in pairs after having them skim the questions If any questions about unknown words arise- explain them before going on Have students talk/ discuss then take w/c feedback.

Have students talk about the context (5-10 minutes) • Get students more familiar with the topic before reading

Ask students to think of advantages/disadvantages of where they live. Activity will be done alone then compared in groups. Take w/C feedback Find out if they'd like to live elsewhere and why?

Pre-Reading #2 (5-10 minutes) • Introduce unknown vocabulary

Tell Ss they will read an article then introduce new vocabulary Drill words that are hard to pronounce

First Reading (14-16 minutes) • Make students get an idea of the text

Have them skim the text and then give them reading exercise 1 See if they came up with the right answer in w/c FB

Post-Reading #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Give students reading exercise # 2 Ask if they remember which info is mentioned in the text SS discuss these sentences together They will read again - more carefully They will check their answers, then peer check.

Post-Reading #2 (10-12 minutes) • Thinking and, writing and speaking about the text

Ss think of disadvantages of living in Paradise Ridge in groups - Have each group put one on the board - See if everybody agrees

Post-Reading #3/ Listening (5-10 minutes) • Have students listen to text-related anecdotes

Students listen to residents of Paradise Ridge talking about disadvantages Students will be able to check their predictions based on what's on the board and on what they will be hearing Take w/c feedback and see if there was anything mentioned they had not thought of themselves

Post-Reading #3 (3-5 minutes) • Speaking about the text

Exercise # 5 : Have students discuss in pairs if they'd wanna live in PR Why / who not? W/c feedback, get some of the ideas
