Description

In this lesson, SS will be engaged in S focused Present Perfect Simple/Continuous grammar exercises in the context of "making a difference". Language system will be supported by productive skill (speaking). New vocabulary will be presented to practice MFP of grammar.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and review of Present Perfect Simple and Continuous in the context of "making a difference"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a debate in the context of "making a difference"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Eliciting: - Would you do the same thing as Ryan Sinclair did? -Why? -What other issue that do you think needs to be solved?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a reading text

Task 1 -To start make a joke like "how interesting thing is learning grammar", "isn't it", then -Set the Ss for PW if they are more than 3, if not set them for GW -Give the instruction (In which sentence are both forms possible?) -Check the given instruction with ICQ -Give the HO-1 -Give 5 minutes to complete -Ask peer checking (give 1 minute to peer checking) -Elicit the answers

Clarification (10-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronounciation of the target language

-Give the HO-2 -GW or PW (in case of the late comers) -start task by mentioning the time to complete -After the task write the example sentences and draw a time-line for target language. -Use CCQ to clarify the target language (meaning, form and pronunciation) (Does Ryan love cycling now or he did in past?) (Does dance marathon still go on) (Does present perfect link the past to the present) - Backup plan for extra questions: 1. How many times have you checked your Facebook today? 2. How long have you been worked/working? 3. When have you had your breakfast? complete task

Semi-Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

-Give the HO-3 (Student will make target language questions out of the words) -Students work individually -ICQ (Will you work together or alone) and mention time (3 max) -FB 1. Peer-checking 2. Ask student to put together the separated words together on board -After ask student to direct the same questions to each other and answer

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-Remind the reading task related to context of "making difference". Then compare "local heroes" with "global heroes" -Write a headline (investment) on a board related to concept -Elicit by asking opinion -Set Ss to GW -Give instruction (two Ss are supporter and the one is opponent) (The group has to note tree argument to support their side) -ICQ and give 5 minutes to complete -Start the task -Select winner
