Description

In this lesson, students will read a passage about "Holiday".The first section is relevant vocabulary which are supporting practice visuals on p. 152, for which the matching handouts will be given. The reading also provides the source for the TL in the following lessons. In the next stages, they will skim and scan the reading and answer to the questions given in the handouts.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- write your name and the date on the board - Ask the students if they have ever been on a bad holiday

Pre-teach vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • To pre-teach key lexis needed to help students complete the next task

- Divide the class into two groups -Give the students simple instruction - Give them the matching handouts - Give them the cutouts

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. Give the Ss the handout of the questions of 1.c to ask each other

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

2. Give each group one of the texts with a general question * Don't forget the time limit * Don't give the correct answer here

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- Mingle the members of the two groups of A & B - Give the handout of the questions of 2a

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- Ask the students the question: Have you ever been on a holiday that you didn't enjoy? What happened?
