Life in the arctic

Description

In the lesson student will practice listening and learn new vocabulary through the text book. The lesson will start with the picture of Arctic and life there. They will try to answer a short quiz with multiple choice answers to show what they know about the topic. Further, there will be some controlled practice of listening by watching a video related to the topic. Then students will fill out blanks with a given list of words. Lesson will continue with answering true and falls about their country in relation to arctic life. In the end, students will be asked to do more research about other indigenous people.

Main Aims

  • To provide listening practice using a text about World Culture in the context of Life in the Arctic

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of Life in the context of Food, sea food, mussesls, people, Inuits, Indigenous, temperature, igloo, dangerous, plants, trees, snow, ice

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Flash Cards to elicit and introduce vocabulary. 1-Pictures will be shown and students will try to guess "what is in the picture?" on the base of their knowledge. 2- If they don't know then teacher will make it known and repeat with the class few times. 3- Lastly CCQ in very less TTT manner.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Students will make a story in a group work by bringing the answer together. From multiple choice answers will be chosen and attached to the questions.

While-Reading/Listening #1 • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

A video will be watched. 1- Students divide into two groups. 2- Place set of vocabulary in front of them. 3- They clap the table quickly if they hear any word of their vocabulary set, from the video.

While-Reading/Listening #2 • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

HO to fill out gaps. 1- Play same video again. 2- Student listen and fill the gaps. 3- At the end, display answers on the board and ask the students to compare their answers.

Post-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students will question each other in pairs in the same context of "life in winter" in the place they have come from. If there is enough time they can ask me question about my country 'Pakistan'
