Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about documentary series in the context of about commuters

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (9-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T projects 4 pictures about the text. T says ' There are few pictures on the board.' T draws their attention on the pictures and asks them to say few words about the pictures. T reminds that There is not only one possible answer. What do you see in the picture 1? What do you see in the picture 2? What do you see in the picture 3? T asks Ss to work in pairs and try to make a long sentence about the pictures.

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it understandable.

What about you? Do you have long way to work or to school and how they go there? If they say no, ı want them to talk about their family. - Ss match the pictures and definition with the words. -Once they finish, t checks the answers together with the class. T distributes the papers and draw their attention on the title. Try to elicit ideas about the according to title.

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks

- Ss open their course books and look at the reading. - T asks ' How much time do you spend on the way?' T says 'Let's read a text about people who spends hours and how long they got stuck in traffic. Ss finish reading and answer the comprehension question. First they do it on their own and then they discuss the answer with their classmates . When they finish, t checks the answer with the whole class.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to revise the words that was learnt.

T distributes a piece of post-it for each student and asks them to write at least two new words that they have learnt in this lesson. T asks them to describe that word without saying the exact word. It can be by drawing or giving synonym or antonyms or miming. And the other students try to guess what the word is.
