Description

In this lesson, ss will be practicing prices and times. First they will be learning the pronunciation of the currencies. Students will then practice pronouncing the currencies.This is followed by an activity where students practice the times and prices in a group of three. Next, students will become even more familiar with the topic and they will do a role play. (After setting the context at the cinema)They will be asking questions and responding about the topic. Also they will be having a conversation with different ss in the class about buying a ticket for a film they really like so they will be practicing their productive speaking skills. Finally they will being doing a class survey and filling in the survey according to the answers so this will improve their writing skill too.At the end of this lesson they should be able to ask, answer speak (production) about the topic and write about the topic.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy and fluency in the topic by asking questions and responding first then have a conversation about the topic of the lesson.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about time and money in the context of times and curriencies

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Put some items with the prices under it and some pictures with the times under it and get ss to practice saying some different times&prices. Also check students can pronounce the currency correct. dollars,cents,euros,pounds,pi like 40p euro cent dollar pound pi /ˈjʊə.rəʊ/ /sent/ /ˈdɒl.ər/ /paʊnd/ /piː/

Controlled Practice-focus on the meaning of TL (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher puts SS in to 3s, practice saying and understanding the TL. She will give the handout and divide the SS in to A,B and C .While SS are doing this the teacher will go around and monitor,take notes and do error correction in FB.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Set context: At the cinema in London Elicit dialogue: A: Excuse me Theresa: Yes? A: Three tickets for 48 hours, please. Theresa: Ok. A:How much is that? Theresa: 5.00 pounds. A: What time is the film? Theresa: At 5 o'clock. First get a chair and do it at the board.Drill and practice as a w/c.

Productive Task(s) (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Then divide the ss in to pairs within 3 groups and tell SS to find the person who has the same number and before starting the activity and telling ss to find each other give the instruction about the activity. Tell SS that one SS will be the customer and the other will be the ticket seller. They will to the activity after I demonstrate and check understanding.

Feedback and Error Correction (4-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

The teacher will do some general FB-which film they bought tickets for,etc. The the teacher will put some errors on the board and get SS to correct them.

Controlled Practice-Personalisation (6-10 minutes) • To remember and practice times

Give SS a survey and the SS will go around the class ask SS the questions but they have to find the SS with the same number and ask that person and write their answers.
