Description

This material rounds off the lesson. It continues with the topic of journeys and provides the Ss with listening and speaking skills practice and the opportunity to use the grammar from the previous lesson.The context stays the same : Journeys.The students will first be taught new vocabulary and are consequentially asked to make up stories based on pictures they are given. Students then listen to the recording and match the pictures to the text. An exercise will require them to match sentences to the stories they listened to. Later, they will be given a text related to the listening with mistakes to correct. This all will be followed by a speaking activity during which students interview each other.

Main Aims

  • To practice listening for general information, specific information and detail using a text and audio recording about Journeys in the context of unusual different type of trips people have taken

  • To provide students with exercised to improve reading and speaking skills

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students (Unusual Journeys)

Ask students if they know anybody who has been on an unusual journey Tell them they will listen to 3 unusual travel stories after being taught some new vocabulary related to the upcoming listening task Show them pictures and use blank-filling as well as gestures and explanations of new words to teach them the vocabulary needed to comprehend what they're about to listen to

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show Ss the cut up pictures and make known that each story talks about two of those pictures. Have students work together to match pictures into pairs and try to make up a story about an unusual journey involving two of the pictures Take w/c FB and find out which pictures they matched.

Initial Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To get students to get a general idea of the text

Tell Ss to listen and see if their ideas are correct Ss do activity Number 1 on their handout: Have them match pictures according to the listening Get them to check answers with partners and take w/c fb

Listening Activity #2 (14-16 minutes) • To see if students got a more detailed understanding of the listening

Have students do exercise 2 on their handout : Have them match questions to journeys from the listening Ss discuss their ideas Ss listen again and check their answers with partners. Then take w/c feedback.

Final listening task (8-10 minutes) • To see if students understood details of the tex and provide them with an opportunity to read what they listened to

Have students read three modified versions of the listening ( exercise 3) They are going to be asked to find the mistakes They listen again and check their answers W/c feedback will be taken. Exercise 5 : Answer question in the form of a w/c discussion

Post-listening, production & personalization (5-15 minutes) • GIve them a chance to engage in conversation and use new vocabulary

Ask them to think about a personal journey, a book or a film involving a journey. Speaking Activity 1: Let them think of answers of their own Have them interview each other about their books/film/stories. General w/c feedback : Who had the most interesting one?
