Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Pam and Claire-Carnival Tour in the context of Festivals

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of festival words in the context of festival

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Pictures in the power point will be presented; The following will be asked; 1. What do you see in the pictures? 2. Are they dancing? 3. Where are they?which country? 4. What do we call to these types of parties?

Pre-Reading/Listening (13-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

((the following words will be pre-taught (Use the LA); Carnival, Festival, Band, Costume, Fireworks, Display, Float, Mask, Parade/procession, Speaker, Traditional food (this is the part that I focus on vocabulary throughout my lesson).)) CCQs will be given to them as a matching activity; they will do it in groups; groups change position and check each others matches; The handout consisting the answers will be given to them.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (9-11 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ss will be directed to work individually to answer part 2; 1 minute will be given for this aim; They will do pair work; the will have WC + WC feedback

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students will do part 3 of the reading, individually; They will have 4 minutes for this aim; they will check with their pairs; The answers will be discussed as WC activity;

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

They will do exercise 1; they will have 5 to 10 minutes to work on it in groups; their mistakes will be corrected;
