Lead -in (8-10 minutes) • teaching speculation of ( Future , Present < Past )

I write on the WB It may rain tomorrow. It could rain this afternoon. It must have been raining all the night yesterday. Then I ask students to guess ( speculate ) which sentence tells guessing about the Future, the Present , the Past. also which one I'm ( more sure about ) & which I'm ( less sure about ) I ask students to work in pairs , give similar examples.

Clarification1 (5-7 minutes) • Ss practice Modals of Speculation

Ss study carefully the chart of modals of speculation & the degree of more sure or less sure

Clarification 2 (8-10 minutes) • Ss practice Modals of Speculation

Ss read in pairs examples 1-6 SB p. 78 and find out whether they speculate about Future, Present or Past. Ss should find out which ones are more sure & which are less sure about. Then SS match the type of each speculation with a small note which the teacher provides them with and match them to the right type of speculation on the wall.

Practice (8-10 minutes) • Ss practice reading a story and choose the best verb form to complete the sentences.

Ss in pairs read a story then do EX.2 p. 79. Ss should find out whether it is more certain , certain or less certain

Production (8-10 minutes) • SS produce their own sentences in the same target language

Ss use the cartoon picture on SB p. 79 to speculate about the people , why are they sitting in a hospital waiting room.

Free Speaking (8-10 minutes) • To speak freely and speculate about people in pictures

I show series of pictures in their unusual , unexpected events , SS speculate about each picture and say if they are certain , more certain or less certain
