Abc ex 5
Abc ex. 1,2,3

Main Aims

  • Grammar

Subsidiary Aims

  • Speaking

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T writes 'congratulations!', 'I'm sorry', 'wow' etc. to ask Ss about the news could be told before these expressions. This will give them hint about what to expect from the lesson and will set the context.

Test #1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T gives Ss a first test and when they finish asks to check their answers by mingling. From the results of the first test T decides whether to clarify the language point or let Ss practice more.

Teach (11-12 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T uses model sentences from the previous listening exercise and gives out ex. 1 on grammar; asks Ss to do it first in pairs and reacts to students' answers. Then T clarifies Present Perfect by eliciting answers from Ss.

Test #2 (6-7 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ss work individually and do ex.2 p.77; and check answers with a partner when they finish the task; T then gives answers on WB. After that Ss do the same task by changing underlined words with their own ideas. T asks Ss to read out some of their own sentences.

Free practice (7-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will work in small groups and will discuss pictures given in ex.3 p.77; T monitors their speaking and corrects if necessary. After the activity T gives incorrect sentences so they can correct them.

If...practice (0-7 minutes) • To continue practising the grammar without deep clarification

If Ss do this exercise in case they complete the Test 1 quickly and without any problem with any of the students. T will give Ss a text with gaps to fill using Present Perfect.
