Description

In this lesson, Ss will learn about art vocabulary. T and Ss will work on an art vocabulary chart. Later on, Ss will read a text on art and answer qs relating to the text (controlled activity), followed by another vocabulary practice and finally a free activity, where Ss will talk about what type of art they enjoy and why.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Artist Orlan`s bio in the context of art

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of art lexis in the context of art

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will ask Ss " Do you go to art galleries/art shows? Is yes where if not why not?" Ss will talk in PW about favorite art type and favorite artists.

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T will become an artist and get a volunteer S and make two drawings on the WB. Ss will be asked to describe the 2. 1 - figurative, 2 - abstract.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss will produce a Vocabulary chart with different art vocabulary

Clarification (2-3 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ss or T will clarify words that are unknown.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will be given a text. Ss will read carefully and answer questions from HO1

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

HO 5 , 2 GROUPS A & B

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In groups of 4 Ss will discuss their favorite art types and artists
