Procedure (40-51 minutes)
T shows Ss a picture of Istanbul.(Projector) Istanbul is a big city. What are the good places in Istanbul I can visit? T shows pictures of Hotels, museum, beach, airport, bridge, station. T elicits the names of these places from Ss T asks What about other cities? T shows a big pic of Barcelona and Prague. Asks Do you want to go to Barcelona/ Prague for the weekend?
T gives students HO1 Ss are given a set of flash cards they are asked to work in threes to match the words to the picture. ICQs: Are you going to match them alone? (No) Are you going to match them together? (Yes) WCFB Ss from different groups are asked to place their answers on the board. T makes sure everyone agrees with the answer before drilling the vocabulary.
T reads HO and shows the brochure on the projector Ss are asked a gist question 'What do you know about these cities?' Ss are then given brochures of Barcelona and Prague they have 3 minutes to read the text quickly and answer that question. ICQs: Are you going to read slowly? (No) How many minutes do we have? (3 minutes) Do we read together? (No) Ss get a chance to answer the question. WC
Ss get HO3 and answer Ex 2 (possibly gist reading) Ss are asked to read the text again slowly this time and answer the questions in HO3. T demos how to answer the questions in HO3. ICQs: Are we going to read the text alone? (yes) Do we only answer question 2?(No) Do we write the whole word Barcelona or just B? (B) Ss Compare answers in pairs. WCFB together we answer the questions on the board.
T asks students what they like about Barcelona or Prague? Ss take a minute to think about what they read from the text and answer the question. Ss share their opinion on what they liked? to the WC.
T gives students HO4 T demos a few examples on how to mark the stress Ss read the words carefully and try figuring out where the stress. T drills the words WC and gives FB
