In this lesson Ss will practice speaking for fluency and accuracy, through listening and grammar in the context of "13th years old". Ss first will listen to the dialogue then they will be provided grammar activity. In their freer activity they will have discussion about "how were their thirteenth years."

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of "When I was thirteenth years old"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of was/were in the context of "when I was thirteenth years old"
  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about Margaret`s thirteenth birthday party in the context of "When I was thirteen years old"


Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss pic-A. Ss discuss in pairs what do they see in the picture? Feedback Elicit the answers.

Listening-1 (Listening for main idea) (3-4 minutes) • To provide Ss to listen for gist

-Ss listen to the record and decide whether the birthday party was good? and why? -Ss share their ideas with their peers. -Feedback Elicit the answers

Listening-2 (Listening for specific information ) (5-6 minutes) • To provide Ss to listen for specific information and get them focus on Functional Language

-Give the HO-1 -Give Ss time to read the questions.* -Ss listen the dialogue again and answer the questions. Feedback 1st- Peer-checking 2nd- Get students to come on the board and write the answers. *If there is time get Ss to predict the questions first. Then they will check their answers while they will listen.

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

-Give HO-2. -Students read the sentences from the dialogue and answer the questions. -Write/show the sentences on the board elicit the form and dill the pronunciation.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

-Give Ss HO-3. -Ss make questions with "you". Feedback 1st- peer-checking 2nd- Ss come on the board and stick the words in order to make a question. - Ss to use these question and ask them to each other. Model and help if it is necessary. *If there is time give HO4. Ss write the names of five people in their family and ask to their pairs when/where the people were born

Productive Task(s) (10-12 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

-Give Ss HO. Ss use the words and talk each other about their school life when they were thirteenth .Monitor and note the errors to peace of paper. *[Ss won't be taught the adjectives "favorite" "good at" and "Tall". Before the activity, give some examples use these adjectives.If Ss will not understand explain them during the monitoring.] *put Ss in pairs before the activity. However, if they are three people put these Ss in group three. **If there are enough time give extra task=HO. Ss will talk about "how was the Istanbul when they were thirteen.

Feedback and Error Correction (6-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

-Write the errors on the board. -Ss will work in pairs and correct their mistakes Feedback -Elicit the answers
