Description

In this lesson students will learn how to explain reasons by text-based presentation. They will then discuss the meaning and form of these words, after which they will do some controlled exercises. The lesson will continue by discussing student's phobias and explaining reasons role-play.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students will be given different situations and asked to think of missing words and find out a suitable one.

Exposure (5-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss will be given sentences taken from previous text with gaps in them. They will be divided into two groups and will try to quickly find these sentences in the text and fill in the missing words.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss in this stage will already know about the subject of the lesson and refresh in their minds about the use of these expressions. Thus, they will be able to do task 1 where they should put the appropriate expression into grammar box by working in pairs. The teacher then asks students to change their partners and check their answers.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ss will discuss as WC the MPF of expressions for explaining reasons on WB with examples and CCQs.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will do exercise 2 in pairs, where they should find out the suitable expression after which the teacher gives answers so they can check themselves. As the given text is about a phobia, they will then try to guess what is the character from the text is afraid of.

Semi-Controlled Practice (7-8 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss will be divided into two groups one of them will get A cards, another will work with B cards. They will choose two phobias and will try to make as many sentences as possible using the given prompts.

Free Practice (6-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will work in pairs and will be given pictures with strange actions that people do in them and role-play a dialog where one of starts by saying 'I saw you did...., why did you that?', and the partner should prepare a funny/satisfactory explanation. Teacher will then ask each of this pairs their explanations.
