Description

In this lesson the students would be introduced to new money related vocabulary and practice using them.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of money exchange

Subsidiary Aims

  • listening to model dialogue.

Procedure

Warm up (3-4 minutes) • To activate students knowledge of the topic and expose them to new vocabulary.

T gives students HO number 1. Ss connect the picture to the money related vocabulary. Ss check their work in pairs. It is also an opportunity to clarify new vocabulary.

Lead in (3-4 minutes) • To generate Ss interest in the theme of the lesson.

T places different questions from Ex 1 P.42 on each table and asks Ss to read and take turns answering the question in groups. WCF, T asks one person from each group to share the most common answer in their group.

Preparing to speak. (5-6 minutes) • So students can generate ideas and provide a model

-T puts up a picture of Thiago. Introduces him to the Ss. "This is Thiago. He's flying from France to Scotland. But before his flight he stops at a Money Exchange to exchange some money." - T gives HO number 2. Ss listens to Thiago's conversation with the exchange assistant and answer the questions in Ex,3 p42 - Ss compare each others answers.

Useful language (5-6 minutes) • To clarify language which Ss may use during their speaking task

-T gives student HO number 3 Ex 4, P 42. -Ss work in pairs to match the question and answers. - Ss listen again to the tape to check their answers.

Speaking task (Role Play) (8-10 minutes) • For learners to practice their oral fluency in relation to money related conversation.

- T picks three Ss to work as assistants in Money Exchange. One sells Pounds, one sells Dollars, and one sells Euros. T gives them a card they can refer to during the speaking task. - T gives the rest of the students cards with the name of their destination (ex. New York, London, Paris) and an amount of money they need to exchange. The Ss have to figure out, what currency do they need to exchange them to and which assistant sells that currency. "Those who have a red card work at a Money Exchange your job is to sell and help the those who want to exchange money" "Those who have a green card are going to New York and have .... TL and you need to exchange them to dollars" "Those who have a yellow card are going to Rome and have .... TL and need to exchange them to Euros." "Those who have a purple card are going to London and have .... TL and need to exchange them to Pound." *T asks ICQs.

Feedback (3-4 minutes) • To allow learners to compare results

As FB the Ss compare the results of the activity as a WC. Each of the students compare how much they have and in what currency.

If - Time Activity (3-4 minutes) • To allow students further practice

Prolong previous activity. Ss swap cards and roles. And do the activity once more.
