Abc Matching handout

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for making requests in the context of taking taxi

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of taking taxi


Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and egage students

Ss will look at the picture of taxi driver and guess. T will ask students opinion and elicit the context of the lesson. T asks Ss to read questions in ex 1 p 34 and discuss with their partner

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a listening or situation

T ask Ss what questions do they usualy ask when they stop taxi, what do they usually talk about? Ss work in pairs after T asks Ss to listen recording 1.32 to check ideas

Clarification (4-5 minutes) • To clarify meaning and form, drill, focusing on sentence stress

T will write TL sentances and elicit meaning CCQ Is the man taking bus? Is he asking questions from bus driver? Does he want to go to train station? Does he want to keep his case beside/with him? , practice pronounciation chorally and write the form on the board. How much is it to the city centre? is an example for showing stresses. After T will ask students to do ex 5a

Vocabulary (5-6 minutes) • To learn how to use functional language

T will give Ss hand out and elicite the task of ex 4a and ask Ss to do in pairs. Then T will check the answers WCF

Pronunciation (6-7 minutes) • To clarify pronunciation of schwa

T will ask students to mark schwa in example sentence then asks Ss to do ex 5b

Speaking (7-10 minutes) • To practice functional language

T devides students in to pairs and asks SS to read questions in ex 6a and practice answering in pairs. ICQ " Are we working individually?"

If-time activity (4-5 minutes) • Freer practice

T will ask Ss to change pairs and do ex 6c
