Description

In this lesson, Ss learn about the the frequency adverbs which we use commonly in our daily lives in TL, such as always, never, usually, often and sometimes. They learn the meaning, form and how to use them in the sentences.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of the meaning, form and pronounciation of frequency adverbs by doing exercises of them both individually and in sentence forms.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide making and reading the sentences focus on frequency adverbs and Ss practice their pronounciation of these adverbs by both listening to and speaking of them.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To make an introduction to the class's topic by showing some related pictures and objects by asking Ss some personal questions about the title of the topic and talk about it.

Pre-Grammar (7-9 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

(Task 2) To get students' attention to the topic and present them the context of it,Ss will be given a questionnaire. They will do it individually first and then they will be given the answer key to check their pair's answers. After peer check, Ss will read their pair's result to class for teacher to check the pronounciation.

Vocabulary Exercise (5-7 minutes) • To present Ss new vocabulary (here as adverbs) and show the MFA.

(Task 1) - Teacher will draw a frequency line on the w/b. Ss will given adverb cards to stick them on the right gap on this line. After that, teacher will right the phonemics of the adverbs under them and making a drill for pronounciation.

Useful Language (5-7 minutes) • To get Ss familiar with the words they have just learnt.

(Task 3) a) Ss will find the frequency adverbs in the questionnaire. They will do it by changing their pairs to interact with different classmates. The feedback will be a simple teacher check just because it is clear to see the answers through the text they are given. b) Also, Ss will be given the form & pronounciation of the adverbs and the key point of right place in the sentence

Practice Language (5-7 minutes) • To practice the grammar in sentence forms.

(Task 4) Ss will be given HO of a grammar exercise in which they will make sentences with adverbs and make them true for them. First, they will work individually and then they will do peer check with their pairs (again different pairs). After that, they will read one sentence from their sentence and one sentence of their partner's sentence. Therefore, they will use different subjectives.

Post-Listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

(Task 7) Ss will listen (for 2 times) an audio of Tanya's questionnaire to identify her answers on the questionnaire. They will be able to hear a pronounciation of the adverbs in sentences again and as a feedback they will talk about and make assumptions Tanya's life by her answers.

Extra Game (5-7 minutes) • To practice meaning, form and pronounciation.

If there is time, Ss will be divided into 3 groups named as "Group Always", "Group Sometimes" and "Group Never". They will make 3 different sentences with their given adverbs as a group. After that, one person from each group will read her/his sentence in a row and every time it becomes an imaginary person with things s/he always, sometimes and never does.
