Main Aims

  • Grammar, defining and non-defining relative clauses

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice speaking in the context of fashion

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (Test #1) (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will be given a Handout 1 where they should find and match second parts of sentences taken from their previous listening exercise. Then T gives answers to them and asks Ss to check their answers in pairs.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T will distribute Handout 2 with grammar reference on Relative clauses and gives Ss time to quickly go through it. Then T will clarify the grammar material in details on WB asking Ss CCQs and demontstrating examples.

Test #2 (6-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

T will distribute Handout 3 and divide Ss into pairs and asks them to do exercises 1,2. After monitoring the class activity (concept check), asks them to do exercise 3.

Free practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T will divide Ss into pairs (or mini-groups) and will choose two students to be speakers of the discussion. Each of the pair (or a group) will be given cards with their roles, the speakers will be given instructions on how to conduct the debate. After giving Ss some time for preparation, T will show the debate questions, and speakers will start the role-play. T will monitor their speaking, correcting if necessary.

Conclusion/ Consolidation (1-2 minutes) • To consolidate the grammar material

T will divide Ss into pairs and distribute exercise from WB to quickly check and consolidate the grammar material.
