Main Aims

  • To provide practice of adverbs learnt in previous session in the context of daily routine

Subsidiary Aims

  • Personal aims: - To use the language appropriately (the speed and pace) grading when necessary, - To provide clearer instructions and CCQs; - To provide enough pairwork and groupwork


Guess what adverb (3-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Each S will get a piece of paper with and adverb on it. He/she will need to show the adverb without saying a word.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

a) The students will listen to the 6 situations and write down the end of the sentences using adverbs. b) The Ss will work in pairs to compare the answers. c) The students will check the answers choosing who will be the next.

DECS (3-10 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

I will elicit the errors, put them on the w/b and make the Ss correct them in pairs. During the WCFB I would pay attention to problematic aspects of TL.

Errors correction task (controlled practice) (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

SS will get a demo of this task on 3 phrases from other exercise. SS will work in pairs and correct the mistakes. SS will get the answers. Teacher monitors and provides WCFB.

Free practice (speaking) * if time allows (7-13 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Depending on their knowledge of TL and the amount of time spent on DEC, Ss will do the mingling activity asking each other different questions using the adverbs. If there aren't enough Ss, they can work in pairs and try to remember as many facts about their partner as possible. DECS
