Description

In this lesson students will learn new vocabulary in the context of places. They will read a text about a couple on a holiday and gist info about the place. They will follow this up with a more specific question that will prompt intensive reading.

Materials

Abc Match HO, circle HO, Jumbled sentence HO

Main Aims

  • To clarify the meaning and pronunciation of the new vocabulary(Adj, Nouns) in the context of places.

Subsidiary Aims

  • enable the students to use new Nouns and Adjectives in the context of places.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead- in (3-5 minutes) • to get the students' attention by creating a context

Students will be asked to comment about the picture of Istanbul. Students will also comment on the picture The Golden Gate bridge. CCQ,s will be asked`, where? what?

Reading Task (5-7 minutes) • To prepare a context and introduce them to the TL(ADJ,N)

Students will be introduced to the blocking vocabulary within the context of Istanbul. CCQ's will be ; what is this picture? what are yhey doing? People go to Antalya for..... There are so many..... in Antalya. Meaning and Pronunciation will be clarified.

Exposure (2-4 minutes) • to expose the students to the TL and have a general idea about the text

Students will be provided with a gist question which will guide them while reading silently and check their answers with their partner. The gist question will be Where are Jane and Brian going? ICQ'S will be; Are you reading quickly or in details? Alone or together?

Highlighting TL (5-8 minutes) • To highlight the new vocabulary through scanning

Students will be guided with a detailed question. The question is: How are the restaurants and cafes in San Fransisco? Students will check with their partner. Students will work on a controlled practice and check with their partner. FB: students will answer the questions loudly.

Clarifying TL (8-15 minutes) • introduce the students to new adjectives and clarify their meaning

students will be asked so many CCQ,s ; Is Istanbul a big city or a small city? Antalya is hot or cold? Turkish people are friendly or unfriendly? Turkish food is good or bad? Turkish girls are beautiful or ugly? The adjectives will be dramatized and conveyed through body language. After that, students will match the pictures with the adjectives with their partner. FB will be provided as the Wc answers loudly. Meaning and Pronunciation will be clarified.

Language Practice (5-7 minutes) • to enable students test their ability to use the TL accurately.

Students will be exposed to a controlled Practice where they have to circle the right adj through PW. FB will be employed with the WC

Language Analysis (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the form of the TL in relation to the context.

The teacher will use model sentences to clarify the Form. Students will go back to the text and underline the adjectives. Language Practice Activity (5-8 minutes) • to practice the form within the context of places.

The students will work on a controlled practice where they have to unjumble sentences. through GW. Answers will be checked with the WC
