Procedure

Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • Listening for gist and detail with reference to work and study

The teacher sticks different pictures on the board to gain listeners attentions. Put students in pairs. Discuss Ex. 1, p. 18. Whole class feedback.

Pre-listening (2-3 minutes) • Listening for gist and detail with reference to work and study

In pairs, students complete Ex. 2, p. 18. Whole class feedback.

During-listening (15-16 minutes) • Talking about own study experience

Gist: give copy of the images in Ex 2. P. 18. Students listen to recording and do ex. 3. Check with partner. Whole class feedback. Detail: Ex. 4. P. 18. Play recording once or twice as necessary (monitor to decide). Students check answers in pairs. In WCFB, ask students what they heard to know the answers.

Post-listening (15-17 minutes) • Talking about own study experience

Students interview each other about their educational experience. Give 2 or 3 questions, for example, if they liked school. Instruct them to think of 1 or 2 more, but remember to give time for them to plan these. Let them interview and mingle each other. Think of a way for them to talk to more than one fellow student.
