Main Aims

  • To provide review of Present simple, continuous and past simple in the context of sports

Subsidiary Aims

  • Talking about sports played as a child

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will refer back to images on p.13 and ask Ss to discuss in pairs activities played indoors, outdoors and in which countries. T-S task feedback (elicit a few ideas)

Presentation (4-6 minutes) • To provide review of the target language through a visual table

T demonstrates the prepared visual table of TL and compares meaning and form of tenses briefly.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To check students' understanding of the target language

T elicits examples of the presen simple, continious and past simple from the previously done activity - reading text on p.12

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss do ex. 5&6 together, T compares meaning and form of tenses and pronunciation features.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss do ex. 7a p.12, after check it in pairs. Then T gives an answer key

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss do ex.8a. They look at the photos trying to guess about the people. T asks helping questions to elicit ideas: What does she/he do? Is she a professional player (golfer)? Is he a professional dancer? Where was she/he born? What is she/he doing at the moment? T divides the class into A/B pairs (using flashcards with even and odd numbers). Ss with even numbers read about Michelle on p.122, Ss with odd numbers read about Vincent on p.128. In pairs they tell each other about Michelle and Vincent. Student-led feedback.

Additional activity/ Cooler (5-6 minutes) • To summarise the lesson content and assist the Ss with their comprehension and recollection of TL they have covered

Ss ask each other about sports they play now and as a child. Can be held in a circle.
