Description

In this lesson students will read listen and talk about artists and writers, music and insperation. The class will begin with students asked how life would be without music and what it means to the leading to the text which then they will have to read for gist, specific and detailed information. the grammar given in the book will be given through the text and practise. the class should end with a fluency speaking practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of past continuous and simple past through the context of music and art

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist, scan and detailed reading practice using a text about music and insperation

Procedure

Lead in/ Warm up (3-5 minutes) • to set lesson context and engage students

The students will be asked a question through a power point slide to discuss with a partner, this is to help the students get engaged and interested in the topic and warm them up for the upcoming text about music and insperation.

While-Reading #1 (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with a less challenging gist information reading task

The students will be given the reading text to read for less than two minutes, and they will be given three pictures and asked to decide which of them suits which paragraph in the text. The students will do the task individually then asked to check their answer with a partner then open it up to have a WCFB.

While-Reading #2 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging specific reading task

The students then will be handed a specific questions, they will scan the text for few minutes to find some specific information to answer the questions. they will then check their answers with a partner then unfold the paper with answer key underneath.

While-Reading #3 (5-7 minutes) • To provide student with a lexical inference task

The students will be given definitions of some words in the text to try and figure out the meaning of them through the context. [The teacher will change the seat of two people on either side of the room to have the students work with a different partner for this task.] Then the students will check their answers with a partner and then have the answer key on the board to have a WCFB

While-Reading #4 (8-10 minutes) • To practice reading for detailed comprehension

The students will now given detailed questions for them to understand the text in depth. they will be given more time to read the text and answer the questions then check their answers with a partner after that they will unfold the handout for the answer key underneath. Then if the students have any questions, they can ask the teacher.

Post-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students will be given time to have a fluency speaking practice with some questions given. The questions will be about insperation; what or who inspire them, how does music make you feel and what is their opinion about the three pieces of music mentioned. the teacher then from the monitoring might have heard some mistakes or good sentences and will share both on the WB in the feedback stage and correct what needs to be corrected

highlight target language (6-8 minutes) • to highlight the target language so that the learners are focussed on it

1. After discussing the speaking questions about the reading text, the students will then be given a piece of paper that has the modal sentences and some CCQs under it to answer. 2. the students discuss the answers together afterward and then have a WCFB

Clarifying target language (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning and form of the target language

1. To clarify meaning: From the reading the script and modal sentences the students will understand that there were two actions which one was longer than the other and one interrupted the other. 2. To clarify Form: There will be sentences on the board from the script used to clarify the form i.e:

Language practice (15-20 minutes) • to provide written practice focused on using the language accurately

1. to practice the target language the students will be handed a fill in the gaps exercise to make sure they understood it. the students will be given time to answer indevisually then check with a partner. 2. there will be fill in the gaps sentences in the second practice, the students will be asked to answer it within a given group then nominate one to answer it on the board. 3. the students will be asked questions to answer using the target language to be able to practise it through speaking too.
