Description

In this lesson students will read 2 different texts in 2 different groups. Both of texts are about hoe a simple idea changed the world of music. I'm sure that they all have things to tell about these texts and as they all really enjoy speaking, they will have a great time.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about success in the context of great idea

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of business ideas in the context of hopes, dreams, ambitions
  • speaking and vocabulary

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- show the photos - Check if they know karaoke, inventor and iPod - ask if they have any experience of singing karaoke or using an iPod

Pre-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

- set the questions on the WB - they will read and predict what the statements are about - give them time to discuss in pairs

While-Reading #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

- set them into two different groups - give each group a different text from the other group - ask them to read to find out the answers of the questions on the board - hand out answer keys

While-Reading #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

- hand out the summary activity related to the texts to each student - set the time - they will work on in individually - peer check - feedback

Post-Reading (5-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

- set pairs, there must be 2 students from different groups - tell them to retell the story to his/her pair

Speaking (10-12 minutes) • to help them to understand and use the expressions

- set the expressions on the board - give some information or check their understanding if necessary - set the questions on the board - ask them to fill in the gaps with the correct expression in pairs - feedback - set them in groups to discuss about the questions
