Main Aims

  • To provide an oppertunity for students to improve in overall listening

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide an introduction to vocabulary and do some clarification

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will begin by speaking about free time what does it mean, my aim is to elicit from them that most peoples free time is in fact on weekends and evenings, and get them in groups to put together cut up sentences with a 2-3 minute time limit.

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Complete exercise V3.2 on pg 126 and check in pairs. then give an answer key for whole class feedback.

prediction (5-8 minutes) • to prepare students to guess about the upcoming listening task

I will post the picture from page 24 and elicit predictions from the students.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (4-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students will complete exercise 4a on page 24 they will listen only once. Make sure they read the questions before listening. then peer check, then whole class feedback * Make sure to receive justification why the answer is true or false.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students will complete exercise 3a individually by listening once or twice, after that make sure they peer check. Whole class feedback- give an answer key

Post-Reading/Listening (12-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

pair students off and have them ask and answer questions from ex 3, re group fro this if some student pairs are not talking once the exercise is completed students will complete exercise 1b, and have students do another 5 about their favorite things to do on Sunday. After that pair them and they can ask and answer each other about their favorite things they like to do on weekends. Rotate them once or twice with this activity (Ss-Ss)
