Main Aims

  • To provide and teach present contentious and present simple.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking activities using the target language.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Start with greeting the Ss. Then the teacher will gesture to a student and say " you are wearing shirt" and then gesture to another student and say "he/she is wearing a shirt". Show pictures and elicit from the Ss the actions or what the people are wearing.

Exposure (12-15 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher will start by showing examples and clarify meaning through the power point. The teacher will explain the differences between Present continuous and present simple. Then the teacher will chest and instruct the Ss to do the activity that will be provided.

Highlighting (5-7 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Chest H/O and explain to the Ss what they'll be doing by saying " Make true sentences about Nigel's holiday" Follow up with CCQ "Nigel Isn't enjoying his holiday, true or false?" The the teacher will get them to do the exercise and follow up with pair check.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

teacher chest handout and instructs the Ss to complete the questions. Teacher will give one example. once completed the teacher will instruct them to ask and answer with their partner. Then listen and check for the answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Teacher chest the H/O and explains to the Ss to complete the sentences in the correct tense. Present continuous or Present simple using the base form provided. "complete the first sentence with present simple and the second sentence with present continuous" get a student to read the first example. Once complete get the Ss to do Pair checking.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher will instruct a FP to the Ss get them to write 3 Present continuous and 3 Present Simple questions. If time allows get the Ss to ask their question to their partner sharing with the class
