Main Aims

  • To get students to read about the eating habits of people from different countries

Subsidiary Aims

  • To get the students to effectively communicate as possible as they can.
  • To get the students know new food vocabulary

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students will see a video about two people talking about food to fugue out the topic of the lesson. After that, I will get them brainstorm ideas about food, for example, what type of food do they like? Do they go to restaurants or cook at home?

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The students will have a matching exercise in which they will be introduced to some of the key vocabulary in the jigsaw reading task. I will ask the students a question about the first picture and elicit the word from them, then, I will put them in pairs and do the rest of the exercise. Finally, I will check answers with the class and Drill any necessary pronunciation.

While-Reading/#1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will focus on the articles and ask them about what they see in the pictures. After that, I will split the students into three groups and each group will have a different article. Get them to work together to answer the questions about their text.

While-Reading#2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

I will re-group the students and make sure there is an A, B and C student in each group. Demonstrate the activity by getting a couple of students from one group to talk about the person in their text.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students will have an exercise with some questions, such as, What's your favorite snack? Do you ever cook?. They will answer with their own information and check their answers in pairs.
