In this lesson, Ss will learn about articles (a, an and plurals) with yes/no questions.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, Ss will larn that we use the article 'a' before nouns that statrs with a consonant and we use 'an' with nonuns starts with vowels

Subsidiary Aims

  • To let Ss speake with each other while doing the activities
  • To let Ss pratice how to write community ads
  • To show Ss how to read ads


Warmer (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

On PPT, show the pics of umbrella, camera, cell phone, laptop and watch. Ask Ss to work individually and number the items from 1(very important for them) to 5 (no important). Tell them to compare their answers in pairs. e.g. my number 1 is my laptop, his/her number 2 is my watch

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Read the instructions of exercise A to the class. (look at the ad, Are the items new?) Elicit the meaning of ad (advertisement). Elicit the meaning of Moving sale (When someone sells some of their possessions because they are moving to a new house or apartment). Listen to their ideas as a class. The answer is: No, they aren't.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss will get ex 2 HO Ask the students to look at the nouns from 1-6 and decide if they are singular or plural. ex c. Have the SS look at the three options it's a, it's an, they're. Have the Ss complete the sentences in pairs.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ss gets a, an, plural HO They will work in pairs I will use the WB in case Ss need more clarification. Will drill some words.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

On PPT, Ss will be shown the pic of "A world of things". In pairs, they'll be given 5 minutes to find 16 items using "it's a" or "it's an".

Semi-Controlled Practice (13-15 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

In groups, Ss will be shown 3 community ads (4 a) on PPT. Ss will be asked to write down what items are for sale. then they will compare with each other. After that, Ss will match the columns (4 b). They will check the answers with each other. Answer key will be in 2 places on the wall. Lastly, Ss will be asked to write their own community ads in pairs. Then they will be asked to hang their writings on the wall and walk around to check each other writings.
