Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show the photo of my friend. Ask if Ss like how she looks. Elicit (slim / fit/ healthy). Tell Ss that you've asked about her secret and she gave it to you. Ask what it could be? Elicit (diet) Show them a diet on HO1 and tell that something is wrong with a diet as it didn't help you.

Exposure (3-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Give out HO1. Ask Ss to read(1 min) and find what is wrong with the diet.

Highlighting (2-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Elicit (not clear how much and how many I should eat) HO2 photos of different foods and different quantity (give each S some photos) Draw a vertical scale with 0 on the bottom and 100 on the top. Write on the board 100-/a lot/ in between-/some/ close to 0 -/not many/ not much / Ask Ss to stick photos to match the definition.

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

point to the countable noun and elicit (many) CCQ Can we count them? (Yes) if we can count the nouns they are called...elicit (countable). Clarify-To ask about quantity of countable nouns we say How+many+apples.........do you eat? point to uncountable noun elicit (much) CCQs Can we count it? (no) If we can't count nouns they are called...elicit (uncountable). Clarify-To ask about quantity of uncountable nouns we say How+much+water.......do you drink? a lot of CCQ Is the quantatity big or small? (big) Is it many or much? (both) Clarify-we use a lot of for both countable and uncountable nouns to say about big quantaty of nouns. (Drill the whole sentence) I eat a lot of apples. I drink a lot of water. Some CCQIs the quantatity big or small? (not big not small). Do I eat apples?(yes) Do you know how many apples I eat?(no) Do I drink water? (yes) Do you know how much water i drink? (no) Clarify-if don't know the quantity of nouns we say some.(Drill the whole sentence) I eat some apples I drink some water not much/not many point to countable noun CCQ Can we count them? (Yes) Is it much or many? (many) I don't eat many apples. point to uncountable noun CCQ Can we count them? (no) Is it much or many? (much) I don't drink much water Notice in questions we use how many/howmuch/. In positive sentence we use /a lot of apples/. In negative sentence we use /not many/not much

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

What do you think i need to eat/drink a lot of/some/not much/not many FB-peer feedback. Exchange the papers. Check the answers.Is there anything you don't agree with? If yes discuss.
