Description

In this lesson, students are going to be introduced to adverbs of frequency in the context of sport. First, as a lead in, I'm going to show them a video about two people talking about their sport. I will try to elicit what the adverbs of frequency the two people use in the video. After that, I will show them some pictures about some sport activities and try to elicit the sport vocabulary they know. Then, they will be introduced to the new vocabulary. Then, they will do a matching exercise to know more about which group of people interested in which sport. After that, they will be introduced to TL. finally, they will practice the TL in a variety of written and speaking exercises.

Main Aims

  • At the end of the lesson, students will get to know new sport vocabulary with the help of the context of sport.
  • Get students to speak as possible as they can

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

To get students interested in the topic, I am going to show them a video about two people talking about their sports. Then, I will get them to talk about it and brainstorm ideas.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

With using pictures, students will be introduced to new vocabulary about types of sports and activities. Elicit and explain any difficult vocabulary and help them with pronunciation.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

To draw students' attention to the target language which is the usage of adverbs of frequency. Explain the meaning of and how to use them in the sentence. then, show where they usually occur in the sentence. After that, they will drill some examples.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

They will have an exercise in which they put the adverbs in right place. Then, they will work in pairs on the same exercise but this time they will give their own information.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

They will have another exercise but this time they will arrange the words to make sentences or questions. After that, they check their answers in pairs and check the exercise's answers on the walls

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students are going to have an exercise in which they talk about themselves using the adverbs of frequency and information in the box. Let each one of them read their sentences to share information with the other students.
