Description

In this lesson, students develop listening skills and practice have to forms. They have a chance to practice it through speaking activities. New vocab is pre-taught.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Engaging students in a conversation about sports.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Provide HO1 with Vocab matching pictures, PW. Feedback. Model and CCQ each answer. Drill the pronunciation, WC, GW, then S-S. Provide HO2 with answers and transcription for HO1.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Listening for gist is provided. A task is to understand what the sportsman has achieved in sports, and what kind of personal life she has. Feedback and CCQs, if necessary: What's her name? What sport does she do? Is she good at it? What about her family? What does she like? HO3 for is provided for choosing the correct answers and listening file is played again. Peer check and group check. HO4 with answers and the next task is provided.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Inferring meaning listening, GW. Ask to finish the HO4 task, GW. WC feedback.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Activity on the topic: What kind of champions do you want to be? Do you have to be an Olympic champion to be happy? In what area do you want to be the best or hold a gold medal? Mingle as a class, Ss share with each other their thoughts about the area they want to be the best and how they can do it.
