Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of unreal conditionals in the context of lost in the jungle

Subsidiary Aims

  • speaking

Procedure

warm up, lead-in (5-7 minutes) • to recall Ss knowledge of their previous lesson before moving to the next task which involves grammar

-Will welcome Ss and introduces myself. -A quick GTKY session -Ask what they remember from their previous lesson about 'Lost in the Jungle' -Vaguely elicit questions using the conditionals, based on the story they have read, just to recieve an understanding of how they produce their sentences

Task (6-9 minutes) • to practice the second and third unreal conditionals before clear exposure

-Introduce the task and give instructions -distribute the task and make them work in pairs -set a time limit (about 3-5 minutes) -in this procedure I will not be exposing any information on meaning and form -when completed, hand out an answer key and allow Ss to check and correct any mistakes themselves -

controlled practice (4-5 minutes) • to prepare students for the guided discovery task

section b. -Split the WB in half and write 'hypothetical situation in the present or future' and ' hypothetical situation in the past' (this should be done while they are focusing on their first task) -Ss discuss in pairs and decide on which of the 4 sentences go in which section. (2 of each) -First pair to finish will write their answers on the board -check answers

learner-centered task (6-10 minutes) • to give an oppurtunity to Ss to discover the meaning and form for themselves

- give instructions and hand them a worksheet -Ss will have to read the two sentences and answer the concept checking questions, followed by a form fill out and overall exposure of the target language -Ss work individually then ask them to compare their answers with a partner and discuss what the target language -I will monitor and check for mistakes(take notes if needed) -Then go through their answers to a certain extent, and give them an answer key - drill pronunciation

semi-controlled practice (7-9 minutes) • to prepare students for a freer practice

-this exercise will be more of a game -Students will be divided into A and B (pairs) and each student will have 6 sentences. A will start of by reading the sentence out loud and coming up with an ending. The ending has to match the endings student B has got. Each student will have the others answers. They will have three trieso for each sentence. -This exercise will get them focusing on fluency more, but will have to form sentences suitable to the target language. -I will monitor and check for mistakes for delayed error correction

freer speaking (3-5 minutes) • to provide students with free practice of the sub aim of the lesson

- will write a sentence on the WB: If you had only 24 hours to live, what would you do? and instruct students to talk to eachother about the topic. -this will be a fluency aim but I will monitor and if I have enough time, do a delayed error correction and feedback. -ask students to discuss as a whole class what they have gained and what they have learned from todays lesson and target language -bring the lesson to an end with kind regards
