Description

This is a FL lesson that will introduce Ss to how to use expressions to invite someone for some events and some of the replies for some situations.

Materials

Abc b & c HO
Abc HO of p.119

Main Aims

  • Ss will be able to use some expressions to invite people to some events in their lives after this lesson.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Ss will have some speaking activities to apply what they have learned as well as to enhance their pronunciation on some words.

Procedure

Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students and grab their attention

Ss will be introduced to a picture of the 2 people chatting on p.73. T will try to elicit ideas as much as possible

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T sets question 1 a through powerpoint T divide Ss into small groups T asks Ss what the question will be

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T gives Ss the HO of 1 b T will provide Ss with instructions T ICQ to make sure Ss got the right information T plays the track T replay the track in case Ss need T gives answer key through Powerpoint T gives Ss the HO of 1 c T plays the track again for Ss to answer When Ss finished, answer key will be displayed via Powerpoint

Clarification (7-10 minutes) • To clarify the function, form and pronunciation of the target language

Clarify the function of invitation and reply through CCQs Do I agree or disagree/refuse/reject? Would you say this to your best friend? Would you say this to one of your family? After making sure the Ss understood, they will be asked to work out the form on the WB T will then do some drilling for pronunciation

Controlled Practice (3-7 minutes) • To teach Ss about the pronunciaition of the letter u

T plays the track T drills with Ss to show the different pronunciation of the letter u in different vocab. T moves them into ex 2 and 3 and makes them listen again then answers

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-13 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students practice

T divides Ss into 3 groups T gives Ss the HO of p.119 (A conversation to each group) A time limit will be set. T monitors while Ss are speaking to each other and hot error corrects if needed while monitoring.
