Description

This lesson continues with the context of taking risks. Focus of this lesson will be made on vocabulary: expressions and phrasal verbs with "take". Vocabulary will be presented through guided discovery in the text "Take an advantage of this offer". Meaning will be clarified in the context of the text and CCQs(Task1). Ss will practice the vocabulary in matching(Task 2) and filling the gaps (Task 3) activities. Form will be presented on the board in 2 columns: expressions with "take" and phrasal verbs with "take. Pronunciation will be marked on the board.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Expressions and phrasal verbs with "take" in the context of Text "Take an advantage of this offer"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and deduction reading practice using a text about Taking risks with your appearance in the context of lesson "Are you a risk taker?"

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context of taking risks.

CCQs: Am i a risk taker? Can you tell if im a risk taker knowing nothing about me? Give 3 facts of my life (pointing that i don't like speed, hight and water) and ask again. Project a photo( with 3 different hair colours) and ask again.

Exposure (7-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text " Take an advantage of this offer"

Gist taks: 1)Read the text (HO1)and and pay attention to the title. Try to explain it in your own words. 2) How many times verb "taken" is used in the text? 3) As soon as you finish reading discuss with your partner how you understand the title.

Highlighting (2-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

How many times verb take is used in the text? (10) Elicit examples. Is the meaning of the verb same or changing?

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: Read the text (HO1) again and answer the questions. (Task 1) (project) FB- answer key (project) Form: How is the meaning of the verb "take" is changing? What are the words that change its meaning. Match the expressions and phrasal verbs with definitions.(HO2) FB-project the answer key Pronunciation: Project the photo and mark stresses and contractions. (LA) nouns-expressions prepositions-prasal verbs

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice
