Description

In this lesson, students learn how talk about family. They listen to David's family to figure out his family's members. At the beginning, they see on OHP photos for my grandpa and me to have simple idea about the topic which leads for listening parts. One of them for gist and the other two are for details. Finally, there is a speaking extension based on what the students have listened and learned.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greeting the students at the beginning. The main aim in the warming up is to engage them to the target language which is about family history, so starting the lead-in by showing some pictures of my family on the OHP. After that, ask them "what do you think our lesson is about?" The answer is family.

Pre teaching vocabulary (6-8 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Ask the students to pay attention to the OHP, and talk about the relationship between the people and the photos. During this stage, they might face a problem about the word "abroad". Afterwards, they discuss with their partner about the main idea of the pictures. Then, they will say their FB to the teacher.

pre/listening (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

In this stage, the student listen to David's family. ask them "do you think that David is talking about his family or his traveling trip abroad?". They take their notes individually. Then, they have a pair check with their partner. Finally, ask them to share their FB with WC.

While-Listening #2 (16-18 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

During this stage, have the students listen for details about David's family for twice, and tell them answer the questions about his grandmother's life, so the students listen alone and then do the comprehension questions about her life. Afterwards, they check their answers in PW, and then they stand up and go around the class to check out the answer key. The next exercise is about a phone call between David and his grandma. ask the students to listen for gist by asking the following question " what are they talking about". After they listen alone, give them sentences which are taken off from the text and they will put them in order. they might need to listen again, but try to make them to put them in the correct order. After that, let them listen again and check their answers one more time. Then, let them have PW check. after that the teacher give them the answer key.

Post-Listening (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In the last stage, the students have semi-controlled speaking practice about their family. the questions are printed. the teacher use the onion circle.
