Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the opportunity to observe an experienced teacher

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-The teacher puts the words on the wall and asks the students to look around. - The students take their seats and talk in groups and answer the questions the teacher has asked. - There is a feedback which defines the topic of the lesson.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

- The students form onion rings and ask and answer the questions. - The students rotate so that everybody gets to ask and answer everybody else. - The teacher should be vigilant and note their mistakes and their strengths.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

-The teacher asks the students to come to the board and write the words they found no answer for. -The students get a chance to cooperate whole class and explain/guess the new concepts. - The teacher explains the concepts which are still vague.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

-The teacher asks the students to play "board rush" and to place meanings next to the words on the board. -The first team to finish quickly and correctly wins.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

-The teacher asks students to discuss the steps this lesson took in their groups. -The teacher monitors and later asks the students to tell the class what steps there were.
