Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of clothes and prices related grammar

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

After a quick vocab review, it goes on with a game, when students hold the pre-given pictures with clothes names up, after they hear its name pronounced by the teacher and repeat it altogether for the sake of pronunciation drill.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

A picture with price-labeled clothes that people wear will be projected. Students will be given HO for a group work to write in the clothes names. The file will be played to check their answers.

Another game will be offered to distinguish between men's and women's clothes. One student will pick up a picture from the set of previously used pictures and say it to the class. If men wear it, then all the male students in the class raise their hands. If women wear it, then they raise their hands.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Writing exercise will be given for students to write what kinds of clothes they wear for different occasions. Then, the class will work on grammar. It will touch How much and plural and singular types of clothes (jeans, trousers, skirt). The listening file will be played again and students will be asked to repeat it in small parts.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students will turn to the work in pairs to discuss their clothes' prices and count it in the way they can.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Then the six kinds of 'cheap clothes' will be projected onto the board and students will need to decide what it means in Turkey. They will write their version of price on the board and pronounce it as the whole class.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

If time allows, students can write and then speak out their favourite clothes and if it's necessarily should be expensive or not.
