Description

In this lesson, students will learn about auxiliary verbs in the topic of paranormal events. The lesson starts off with an activity matching auxiliary verbs to sentences. This is followed up by an auxiliary activity from the book. then the students will listen and check their answers. The next part will concentrate on listening to dialogues to notice stressed auxiliary verbs. that will follow with completing an exercise. Next the Ss will be put in pairs and will complete questions about themselves, their partners will listen and respond to their answers. We will finish off with psychic activities guessing about their partners.

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss with practice with auxiliary verbs with activities in context about paranormal happenings.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide Ss practice in pronunciation, intonation and sentence rhythm.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Introduce, handout lead in activity, explain the activity to Ss and put them in groups then check answers.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

chest the test 1 activity 3a and explain to Ss what to do. handout activity. Instruct Ss that we will listen and check the answers. Explain to Ss we are going to listen again to complete activity 3b to complete the boxes with the correct auxiliary verb used in activity 3a.

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

We will explain to Ss that we will listen to the dialogues and focus on the stressed auxiliary verbs. I will pronounce the auxiliary verbs correctly and get the students to repeat after me. Then I will instruct the students to repeat the dialogues with a partner copying the rhythm. Moving on to 4c, insrtuct Ss to complete the activity about themselves truthfully. Once completed, explain what to do by giving an example and putting Ss in pairs. Ss swap roles when completed. page 9 1a, 1b, 1c and 1d.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Put the Ss in pairs, make A,B. Student A completes the answers what he thinks is true about his or her partner. Check your guesses with your partner B and B will check with partner A. page 105.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will give them a similar task with different questions for FP. page 109
