Description

In this lesson “Call the doctor”, Ss listen to a conversation between a doctor and a patient and find out about the patient condition. Grammar is the main focus, filling the gaps with verbs in the present perfect simple tense or in present perfect continuous tense. Speaking is the sub-main aim of our lesson today.

Main Aims

  • provide ss with clarification, review and practice of present perfect simple in contrast with present perfect continuous in the context of health

  • To give Ss listening and speaking practice

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To get Ss interested in the topic

To set my aim by introducing today's lesson "Perfect tense simple/continuous"in the context of health by showing a picture of a patient To elicit the possible answer of #What symptoms does the patient have? # What’s wrong with him? To ask the Ss to tell me what auxiliary verb we use to form perfect tense.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language "Perfect tense simple/continuous" through listening to a conversation between a doctor and patient

# To listen to the conversation between a doctor and patient. # Elicit the answer of these question...What symptoms does the patient have? What does the doctor suggest? # In groups Ss check their answers for the questions

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the difference in form between Have been doing/ have done

# Give an exercise where the Ss have to fill in the gaps with verbs in Present Perfect simple/ continuous form # Ss listen again to the conversation to complete the exercise. # Ask the Ss to notice the verbs in Past participle form / -ing form # in Pairs they check their answers.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of perfect tenses

# To draw Ss' attention to the time reference in each tense # Elicit the continuity or the completion of the action. # In group Ss will talk together about the meaning of verbs in perfect tense. # elicit the form of the two tenses # drill some sentence to see the difference in form and pronunciation

Controlled Practice (3-5 minutes) • To Check Ss' understanding of meaning and form

# to check Ss' understanding of meaning & form. # Give a circle the correct form of the verb handout #In pairs Ss find the correct answer. # In Group Ss check their answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice
