Description

In this lesson, Ss will practice receptive skills of reading for detail and for gist later in the context of the novel ''Pride and Prejudice''. Then they will read some reviews about the novel then they will try to guess the score on scale from 1/10 to these opinions, after that they will try to figure out some word's meaning in the box

Main Aims

  • To practice Ss reading skill for gist and also for specific information in the context of the novel ‘’Pride and Prejudice’’.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice through the discussion questions.
  • To provide clarification and practice vocabularies in the context of literature.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask them two questions and elicit the answers. Do you like reading? What kinds of books do you like? adventure, literature, classic, romance. Discuss the questions and the books that they've read with them. Which ones they liked best.

Pre-Reading/Listening (6-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Watch the trailer of the Pride and Prejudice. Elicit the ideas about it and what type of this novel; romance, adventure or ...... all this through the PW. Ask them if they would like to read that novel or not ?

While-Reading/Listening #1 (13-18 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

While reading they will skim the text to find out what is the book about ? I'll write down on the board: who is the central character ? where did the novel happened ? what type of novel is it ?

While-Reading/Listening #2 (19-25 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students read the reviews about the book. They score the reviews with a number out of 10. ICQ: Do you only read the reviews? No. we score them. Maximum how much points can you give to each one?10 maximum? PW: They will check their answers in pairs and compare their scores to the others. They will discuss WHY? FB: Reflect the answers on the board.

Post-Reading/Listening (25-30 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Reflect some vocabularies through 6 sentences, I will let them read the sentences and try to guess the meaning of the italic words and i will help them if they asked then they will check the answers in pairs. Then the feedback

Delayed error correction (25-30 minutes) • • to provide students with the correct answers of their mistakes and clarify the pronunciation.

Write the errors on the WB one by one if there any and elicit the correct forms, model the correct use of the language and let them drill together.
