Procedure

Lead in (7-9 minutes) • To provide the students with enough practice of the context as well as get them to think about possible problems they might have on trips

The teacher will ask the students to get a piece of paper and write the name of a city and also a year. Then they will work in pairs talking about an imaginary trip they have taken to that country. they also need to tell their partners what they visited or bought on that trip as well as they places they went to.After the pairwork the teacher wants some students to tell the class about their partner's trip.

listening for gist (5-6 minutes) • to familiarize the students with the context more

the teacher will tell the students that they are going to listen to 3 conversations that happen between a tourist and a guide in a tourist office and he explains that all they need to do is to listen and find out the purpose of each conversation, after listening the students check their answers in pairs for a minute and then the correct answers are given to them.

listening for specific information (4-5 minutes) • to expose the students to the target language

at this stage, the students are given the script to the conversations with some gaps that they need to fill in while listening for the second time.the instructions will be given and they will listen to the listening for a second time. The answers are one more time checked in pairs and then the correct answers will appear on the board.

clarification of meaning and form (4-5 minutes) • to introduce the meaning of the functional exponents to the students

The teacher will refer the students to the listening script again and help them notice the functional elements there. He also tries to elicit the correct meaning and form by showing the students some powerpoint slides and help them realize the functions of these language items.

Clarification of pronunciation (3-4 minutes) • to clarify the pronunciation of the target language

after clarifying the meaning and form, the teacher attracts the students' attention to the stressed parts and correct intonation of example sentences and gets them to drill chorally and individually.

controlled practice (6-8 minutes) • to have the students repeat the target language to remember better

after all of the clarification stages are over, the students will practice the conversation in pairs once by looking at the conversation and once they are done practicing, the same conversation but this time with some gaps will appear on the board and the students will have to practice the conversations without looking at their notes and try to fill the gaps with the target language.

Freer speaking practice (5-7 minutes) • to encourage students to practice the target language without reading from the text

at this stage, the students will practice a role-pay between a tourist and a guide.they will be set in new pairs and practice the target language but this time without reading from the text.this helps them to remember what they have learned and try to exploit it.
